A Part of the Whole

THIS WEEK’S PHOTO CONTEST THEME: ‘A Part of the Whole’
Submit up to three (3) images relating to or displaying the essence of the theme. There is a popular photo game called “What Is It?” where photographers show a part of something and the players are asked to guess what that something is. Taking off from there, this contest challenges you to show only a part of a whole: a piece, a section, a component, a partial view. But instead of the whole being a complete mystery, this assignment asks you to leave visual hints as to what the whole is. The viewer (and judge) should be able to guess — maybe with some effort — what the piece is a part of. Show the Piece but hint at the Whole. Note that the judge may not see your written descriptions but may only see the images submitted, so tell the story in those images. If you need some inspiration, take a look at this Sesame Street video) but ***NOTE: no humans or animals as primary subjects, please!*** The judge states she will be looking at image quality and whether she can figure out the whole from the part. Plus the normal PhoozL judging criteria of: originality and creativity, photo technique/quality, and overall artistic merit.

CONTEST JUDGE: Lisa Waddell is a Texas-based iPhone photographer known for her minimalist style. While she specializes in flower portraits bt does not limit herself to just florals. Lisa received 2013 photo awards at: Mobile Photography Awards, iPhone Photography Awards, Lightbox Photo Gallery, and American Aperture Awards. Lisa’s book, “Endings: Art of the Dying Flower,” is available for purchase in Apple’s iBooks store, on iTunes and at Blurb.com. Visit her website at: lisawaddell.net.
