Submit up to three (3) images relating to or displaying the essence of the theme. Abstract photography captures something in a way not usually seen. It’s not the literal representation of the subject that matters, but rather, it communicates primarily through: form, pattern, line, and shape. As this week’s judge himself writes: “Abstracts can be savored over a long period of time; the taste is not recognized all at once. There ‘is something left’ after the first, second and subsequent viewings. It reveals more (within the viewer) as time goes on.” The judge will be looking for images that illustrate the theme in interesting ways that engage the viewer; plus normal judging criteria of: originality and creativity, photo technique and/or quality, and overall artistic merit.
CONTEST JUDGE: Tracy Valleau has been photographing for 50 years. His work has been published in “Outdoor Photographer,” “Panorama,” “Best of California,” “Windows of the World” (among others), and has been the subject of several one-man shows.
