RESULTS – ’4th of July – Celebration’- PhoozL

RESULTS – ’4th of July – Celebration’

Posted by

The 4th of July U.S. holiday opened up to a general summer celebration theme. Judge Kevin O’Connor comments:

“Celebration is a theme with wide latitude for interpretation, and it was great to see such different approaches. Compliments to all who entered.

“As photographers, we’re often at the heart of celebrations, asked to document the special event/day/celebration. However, seeing the celebration in a burst of floral fireworks or a spray of water droplets from a fountain can cause a viewer to experience an interior form of celebration, and it’s heartwarming to see those entries as well. We need more celebration in the world, and we need photographers to find, document and affirm celebration wherever it can be found. Nice work, everyone!”

— Kevin O’Connor

First Place
“Amusement Park at Iranian Celebration…”
by Mikael Sundberg
Judge’s Comment: The more I look at this image, the more I see. This type of image is very hard to create in such a successful way, but the photographer made a great image here. The compression of the image could have made it look very flat, but instead the heads at bottom right looking right at us balance well against the houses at top left, providing multiple levels of depth. The use of light and color is superb. Everywhere I look I see something I like; this image captures the density of celebration at an event like this beautifully.

Second Place
“Floral Fireworks”
by nance kay
Judge’s Comment: This elegantly shot, beautifully composed image should be made into a greeting card and used to brighten people’s days all around the world. Great image. Kudos to the photographer for seeing and capturing this joyful scene. Great exuberant color. Thank you for seeing and making this image.

Third Place
“The Peace Tower”
by Kay Beausoleil
Judge’s Comment: Images of fireworks with a building or other object to add scale and depth are usually significantly more effective than fireworks alone in the sky. This is a nicely done image, with lovely color, and excellent balance between the exposure of the tower and the exposure of the fireworks. Very nice job.

“Here’s to Celebrating Friendship”
by Charlena
Judge’s Comment: A toast to this photographer’s very good health is in order. The depth of this image, with multiple layers of bottles and glasses softly out of focus going back, is very nicely composed.
